Betsey Johnson's New York apartment is (was? I imagine it's been snapped up) for sale, which means we get a sneak peak at the inside. It's very pink, but pretty much perfect.

Check under the jump for more of Betseyville!

Another Day, Another Round of Men's Shows

My coverage of the men's shows is somewhat lacklustre, and I apologise again for that. It's hard to muster enthusiasm for suits! Still, at least someone knows what they're doing.

Moschino : Everyone's A Winner, Baby!

I'm a huge, huge, Moschino fan. Sexy, funny, rock 'n' roll, tacky, hideous... all words connected with the Italian mega label. It's flash and it's brash, but it's fucking brilliant. In a week of repetitive menswear shows, it's always nice to see someone do something interesting, no matter how silly it might be. The show had a Vegas theme, with lucky clover motifs, Rat Pack-esque suits and specs, and spangly shoes galore. There was more than a passing reference to the 80s -- the label was started in '83, and seems to have stayed there sartorially ever since -- with slicked back Patrick Bateman hair, those omnipresent shades and even a questionable petrol coloured leather bomber jacket. But what about the less flash Harrys out there? Quite why they'd be shopping at Moschino I don't know, but for the tamer end of the audience there were exquisitely cut slim suits, stripey suits, and remarkably tasteful pea coats. As for the atypical Moschino fan? Pink leather gloves, black and red stripey Hot Topic-tastic trousers, and a purple Puffa vest... how about the sequin covered biker jacket, trousers and blazer? Yes please! Roll on the women's shows...

For much better coverage of the men's shows, check out my friends at Brandish!

See by Chloe : Spring Shopping

How do I love Chloe? Let me count the motherfucking ways. Everything is perfect. Today I was browsing for a colourful dirndl style skirt for Spring/Summer. I have a hideous/wonderful floral shirt from the 50s, that is crying out for a colourful new friend. I used to wear it with this sick orange pencil skirt, but I appear to have lost that. Chloe (well, See by Chloe this time) is, as ever, the answer. Lovely lovely colours and shapes for summer.

All I need now is some matching shoes, and I'm set. Hmmm....

Accessorising Like a Pro!

Everyone is probably familiar with the work Takashi Murakami by now. Even if the name doesn't sound familiar, you'll no doubt have seen his cutesy artwork somewhere -- he does seem to get around. His Louis Vuitton range was a global success, and the counterfeiters seem to have something of a fondness for his designs. Every bus I get on in South London seems to contain at least one lady with a fake TM for LV bag -- you know the ones;

Anyway, I digress -- let's not tarnish the work of the good man himself with the work of fakers. His designs are adorable, and I was delighted today to see that the blog of my favourite magazine featured some bitching Murakami accessorising...

Spectacular! Nicely done, Jaq, nicely done.

Rachael Who?

A recent article on WWD on the spate of Kates taking over the fashion/entertainment industry got me thinking... Are there any motherfuckers out there masquerading under my name?

Rachel Comey is a New York based designer promising a snazzy line in vintage, rock 'n' roll inspired pieces. So far, so Rachael. David Bowie loves her, and she designed a range of costumes for everyone's favourite gypsy punks, Gogol Bordello. All very promising, but what of the actual designs, Comey? In an unusually Amish decision, Comey has neglected to get herself one of them new fangled websites, and she doesn't appear to be listed on style.com -- however the ever reliable NY Times did cover her last season, and, whaddya know? Well, it's not shit by any means. In fact, there's a fair few cutey patooty pieces, although there's naturally some crud along the way. Whether or not I can see any rock, or indeed roll, influences is debatable, but it's tasteful enough. I've added Ms Comey to my NY 'shows to check out' list, and look forward to seeing what she's up to next.

Rachel Riley was next on my list, and not a complete stranger this time. With a store on Marylebone High Street, I've walked past the boujis little store on more than one occasion, but never had any desire to look inside. The label was launched initially as a children's line, which is not a promising start, and the womenswear does seem to be simply bigger versions. The company bio is also a little nauseating, although for a certain time of customer it's probably just adooorable; Inspired by her mother’s dress making, Rachel Riley started to smock, embroider and hand knit clothes for her three young children in the idyllic country setting of their chateau on the banks of the river Loire. Riley doesn't want you to right click her images, and as I'm too lazy to print screen repeatedly, I'll leave you with her website.

Rachel Seddon is, according to her website, 'a London based jewellery designer-maker who produces handmade pieces in silver and gold.' So far, so vague. Although a little underwhelming, and disappointingly low on information, her site seems to show off some tasteful, and at times actually quite contemporary pieces. I was particuarly taken with the 'egg' range, which consists of... egg shaped pieces, all named after different types of bird (what wit). Whether or not the sizes of the pieces coroborate with the eggs in question, I couldn't tell you. The 'chroma' range bored me rigid, but 'spool' was fun -- knuckle dusters are always a winner in my book, and the earrings for adjacent holes (wahey) were a neato idea. Seddon edges into the lead as my new favourite Rachel.
