I'm a big fan of tranny make-up, and false eyelashes are, of course, a big part of that. Unfortunately, lashes are one of those cosmetics that you need to spend money on -- cheapies just wont do!
When it comes to lashes, Kakuyasu Uchiide is pretty much God. Head make-up artist of cosmetics company Shu Uemura, Uchiide is responsible for some incredible falsies -- these aren't your average Superdrug straggly spiders.
He reckons that, 'false eyelashes are one of the easiest ways to bring out a woman’s attractiveness', and with work like this, I think he's onto something. Apparantly Shu Uemura have some exciting designer collaborations lined up for 2008 -- this is turning out to be the year of the superstar collab!
Check under the cut for a couple more looks from the magical Mr Uchiide.

Congratulations due today to Nicolas Ghesquière, fashion director of Balenciaga, who be decorated next Tuesday as a Chevalier of Arts and Letters in a ceremony at Balenciaga headquarters in Paris. Ghesquière will be joining the likes of Patti Smith, David Bowie, Yohji Yamamoto, and, uh, Celine Dion.Posted by Administrator
The French award is a recognition of outstanding contribution to the arts and literature, and is one of the most acclaimed prizes awarded in Europe. Although recipitents don't need to be French, they need to have, 'significantly contributed to the enrichment of the French cultural inheritance.'
I think it's safe to say that Nicolas has done that -- for those of you who aren't sure who he is, he's the man that give us $100,000 leggings (yes, really) and Lego shoes.

Congrats, Nic, we can't wait for the ready to wear show!

After the riot that was Lacroix, it was back to business at Givenchy. Riccardo Tisci, the designer for the house, is a relative newcomer, and one of few young guns designing for the couture shows. Tisci is credited with giving Givenchy back a sense of direction and a real ‘look’ of its own with his own distinctive take on design – his penchant for gothic style and the futuristic meld together nicely to create an edgy, modern look for this classic brand. Entitled (a little embarrassingly), ‘Gothic Ballerina’, this collection went one step further to cementing Tisci as a real couture designer.

Christian Lacroix doesn’t really play by the rules of trends. I’m sure he is fully aware that everyone else is doing pleats and neutrals this season, but sod it, why does that matter to him? If he wants to make a multi-coloured, multi-layered, mental collection, then we sure as hell aren’t complaining.
See more of Lacroix’s dreamy collection under le cut.
