Zac Attack

Zac Posen is another Gen Art alum done good. Like the Rodarte girls, he designs for a decidedly girly audience – but whilst the Rodarte customers are perhaps of the floaty, arty farty gang, Zac’s girls are tough, gamine types. This collection was sexy, dark, and dangerous, but, uh, with Minnie Mouse ears. Quite why the ears were necessary is anyone’s guess – maybe a bid to cuten the collection up, maybe just a celebration of the rodent queen’s 80th birthday? There were stockings, spangly pants and opaque negligee-esque dresses – but also tailored tuxedos, neat skirt suits, and smart shift dresses. A mixed bag, then, but somehow it all held together.

Blass From The Past

Bill Blass is an American label known for cutting impeccable suits, tailored separates, and subtly glamorous day to night wear. This season the creative reins have been handed over to Peter Som, a designer known for understated sexiness and creative tailoring. Hmm, sounds like a match made in Heaven. Perhaps as away of familiarising himself better with the label, Som decided to build this collection around classic Blass looks, which although designed in the 60s, look current as ever today. No nonsense tuxedo suits worked well, and the jaunty bow ties (literally) kept the look feminine. Evening dresses were exquisitely cut, whilst jackets and skirts were, naturally, tailored to perfection.

Stop! Bandana time!

Hmm, does bandana rhyme with hammer? Not really.

Taking a break from Fashion Week, let's take a minute to admire the wonder of these bandanas from Capital. They go by the suitably rock and roll name of 'Faces of Death', which as you may or may not recall is also an album by Bone Thugs n Harmony.

Now I live in South London, I think it's my duty to buy one.

Winner of the best shoes of the season (what do you mean, 'We're only one week in?') predictably go to my girls at Rodarte. Taking the much-adored Louboutin Mad Mary to a whole other level, these shoes officially win at life.

Watching Rodarte develop from young Gen Art alums (I was there first, guys. I was ON THEM years ago) to fully fledged members of the NY fashion scene has been an exciting journey. They’re going from strength to strength, and are firmly established as the critics and coolpickers favourites – a front row of Kim Gordon, Jefferson Hack and Lynn Yaeger suggests you’re onto something good.
