Urban Outfitters In Non-Shit Shocker

I'm sure you'll have heard by now that the A/W 08 Luella collection is set to be sold at Urban Outfitters in the UK (and www.urbanoutfitters.co.uk). I guess this is good news, although I don't get why people wouldn't just buy it from net-a-porter or the other stockists. I suppose the good news is that it will be in store in a matter of weeks -- weeks before most of next season's collections are set to be available.

Except fights, tears, theft, and all round hysteria. I for one won't be walking to work up Great Portland Street that day. Prices start from £39 -- visit the site for more information. Jen has somehow got a sneak snap of what to expect in store -- how, we may never know.

I'm not one to rave about products for the sheer old fun of it (especially when it's product I've been sent as a 'gift' from a PR), but sometimes stuff deserves a mention. No, but reeealllly it does.

Tday's raving is saved for this Fresh Faced moisturiser. It's formulated for young skin -- which is shorthand for saying oily/spot-prone/dry in patches/generic teen skin. That being said, it works wonders on my wizened old hag features too. Awesome! The pros tell me it contains 'zinc-rich Smithsonite which regulates sebum, prebiotics to help reduce breakouts and strawberry extract to tone.' So far, so confusing. But good. 'It's also crammed full of powerful antioxidants squeezed from cherries, apples and grapes.' I get that part.

In short, it smells great, is non-greasy, and leaves you with smooth, soft, even-all-over skin. AND, it comes in a cool little paint tube, with a really cute illustration. I'm easily sold. Ooh, and it only costs £12 which might be a bit more than a litre tub of Asda own-brand cream, but you only need a squidge and it works sheer magic. It's available online and at Space NK.

Iggy Iggy Iggy, Oi Oi Oi

When I was about 10, I bought a Slayer logo t-shirt from Topshop. At this stage in the game, I had no idea who Slayer were, despite the fact that my parents have AWESOME music taste, and raised me on a diet of Ramones, Bjork and the odd bit of Faith No More. No, I bought this t-shirt based solely on the fact it looked nice. Shameful, I know, particuarly as I am now one of those horrendous music snobs who looks down on/spits on people who wear band t-shirts of bands they've never heard of.

The happy news is, on discovering Slayer were a band*, I rapidly became obsessed with them, and was able to wear my t-shirt happy (and safe) in the knowledge that I could happily recite the tracklisting of Reign In Blood, argue the Nazi argument, and rave about Tom Araya's hair. It's a love that endures to this day.

The point of this is to say, Topshop are selling Sonic Youth and Iggy Pop t-shirts. Instead of sighing and moaning about this, I'm going to remain hopeful that a young upstart will pick one of them up, because of the nice logo, and then go home and learn the history of James Newell Osterberg Jr, fall in love, and buy the entire Stooges back catalogue. Fingers crossed.

*An older male neighbour saw my t-shirt, yelled 'Slayer -- awesome!!!1' and did the devil horn hands -- I may have been naive but I wasn't stupid, and soon realised the truth behind the logo on my chest.

Neon Love

O M G. Toy watches go neon. AWESOME. In the words of Daily Candy, "Neon is always a sign of something great: LIQUOR, HOT DOUGHNUTS, LIVE NUDE GIRLS." They're right, as ever.

The new neon collection is made from Plasteramic (that's plastic that looks like ceramic), and is available in four colours that might just damage your eyes permanently. Kryptonite Green and Plutonium Pink (above), with Ultra Violet, and Atomic Orange also available. Dirt cheap too! Well, as far as designer watches go.

But one must remember that these colours, which are bright and attractive, have a high chemical content and can do a lot of damage, especially to our eyes and skin.
Dr Mahipal Sachdev, The Chicago Tribune

PS Neon Love are a band, who are not nearly as awful as their name might have you believe.
